Baseball Game Preview: Lake Highland Prep Highlanders vs. Montverde Academy Eagles

Lake Highland Prep is 0-3 against Montverde Academy since March of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. The Lake Highland Prep Highlanders will square off against the Montverde Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Lake Highland Prep has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Lake Highland Prep turned things around against Titusville on Monday. They came out on top against the Terriers by a score of 14-11. With that win, the Highlanders brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Manny Socarras, who scored four runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Ari Lanxner also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Montverde Academy entered their tilt with Harmony on Wednesday with six consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with seven. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Longhorns.

Max Irving was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Irving was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-5.

In other batting news, Montverde Academy let Arnaldo Gonzalez and Rainer Garcia run wild. Gonzalez scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Garcia scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Carlos Feliciano, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Montverde Academy pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Highland Prep, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Lake Highland Prep suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Montverde Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Lake Highland Prep avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
