Softball Recap: Newcomb Skyhawks vs. Navajo Prep Eagles
Newcomb extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-11 in the process. They came up short against the Navajo Prep Eagles, falling 19-8. The Skyhawks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
As for Navajo Prep, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
For Navajo Prep's part, Shania Johnhat looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave Johnhat a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
On the hitting side, Leilani Wood was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Shianne Begay was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
While Newcomb had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
