Basketball Recap: Navajo Prep Sets Scoring Season-High Against Zuni

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Navajo Prep). They took their game on Saturday with ease, bagging a 94-56 victory over the Zuni Thunderbirds. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Eagles have posted since December 7, 2024.

Several Thunderbirds players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Terrance Smith, who posted 14 points and seven rebounds. Those 14 points gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Deron Lastyano, who scored 11 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

The victory made it two in a row for Navajo Prep and bumps their season record up to 12-5. As for Zuni, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Navajo Prep has already played their next contest (against Wingate), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Zuni Thunderbirds face off against the Crownpoint Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Zuni's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games.
