Basketball Game Preview: Jonesboro Hurricane vs. Bryant Hornets

The Jonesboro Hurricane will square off against the Bryant Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Jonesboro's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests.

Last Tuesday, Jonesboro was able to grind out a solid win over Cabot, taking the game 56-46. Given the Hurricane's advantage in MaxPreps' Arkansas basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Panthers are ranked 161st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bryant, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They managed a 60-55 victory over Little Rock Christian Academy on Tuesday.

Bryant's win came from a few key players Jonesboro will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Rj Young, who went 8 for 12 on his way to 20 points and three steals. His evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rj Newton, who posted nine points and six assists.

Bryant pushed their record up to 10-7 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Jonesboro, their victory bumped their record up to 16-1.

Jonesboro couldn't quite finish off Bryant in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 and fell 56-54. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Bryant's Kellen Robinson, who went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 28 points.
