Preview: Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars vs. Inlet Grove Hurricanes
Somerset Academy - Canyons is on a three-game streak of home losses, Inlet Grove a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars will take on the Inlet Grove Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Somerset Academy - Canyons ended up a good deal behind American Heritage and lost 70-54. While losing is never fun, Somerset Academy - Canyons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 477th, while American Heritage is ranked 134th).
Meanwhile, Inlet Grove pushed their score all the way to 55 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. The matchup between Inlet Grove and Benjamin wasn't particularly close, with Inlet Grove falling 69-55. Inlet Grove has struggled against Benjamin recently, as their match on Wednesday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Robert Brown, who scored 18 points along with five steals. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayler Hodge White, who scored 13 points along with five assists and two steals.
Somerset Academy - Canyons' defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Inlet Grove, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season.
Somerset Academy - Canyons didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Inlet Grove in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 44-39 victory.
