Preview: Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders vs. Flowers Jaguars
The Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Flowers Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Eleanor Roosevelt walked away with it. They blew past Parkdale, posting a 35-0 victory at home. The victory was familiar territory for Eleanor Roosevelt who now have eight in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Eleanor Roosevelt to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kamal Ali, who threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Donte Howard was another key contributor, rushing for 97 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
Meanwhile, Flowers entered their tilt with Bladensburg with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Flowers simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Bladensburg 63-0 at home. Given Flowers' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland football rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Bladensburg is ranked 175th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Joshua Jefferson had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries. Jefferson was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 57 yards. Another big playmaker for Flowers was Braydon Lee, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Eleanor Roosevelt has yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 8-2 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.0 points per game. As for Flowers, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Eleanor Roosevelt has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 167.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Flowers struggles in that department as they've been even better at 207.8 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
