Softball Game Preview: West Shamokin Wolves vs. Marion Center Stingers

The West Shamokin Wolves will head out on the road to take on the Marion Center Stingers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as West Shamokin comes in on four and Marion Center on eight.

On Monday, West Shamokin got the win against Penns Manor by a conclusive 18-7. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.

Avery Elkin made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Madi Keirn was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Vandervort, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Marion Center put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Wednesday. They never let Conemaugh Township get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. The Stingers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by ten runs or more this season.

West Shamokin pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Marion Center, their record now sits at 8-0.

West Shamokin came out on top in a nail-biter against Marion Center when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
