Preview: Foothill Falcons vs. Chaparral Cowboys
Foothill is 6-0 against Chaparral since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Foothill Falcons will head out on the road to take on the Chaparral Cowboys at 6:30 p.m. Foothill is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Foothill posted their biggest victory yet this season on Saturday. Everything went their way against Las Vegas as Foothill made off with a 66-43 win. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, as Foothill did.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Zak Abdalla and Tayshaun Jackson. Abdalla had a solid game and scored six points along with two steals. Meanwhile, Jackson did his best for the losing side, scoring 13 points.
Chaparral suffered their closest loss yet this season on Thursday. They fell just short of Shadow Ridge by a score of 55-53.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Qualib Ghallab, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 rebounds. Ghallab is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rayshawn Armstead, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Foothill's win bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Chaparral, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Foothill have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've been averaging 39.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Foothill beat Chaparral 55-45 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Will Foothill repeat their success, or does Chaparral have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
