Softball Game Preview: Hatton Hornets vs. Deshler Tigers

The Hatton Hornets will face off against the Deshler Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hatton is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Hatton and Rogers, and Rogers kept the tradition alive. The Hornets fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that the Hornets have lost by just one run.

Anna Potter made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Lane, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Deshler got themselves on the board against Central on Tuesday, but Central never followed suit. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over the Wildcats. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted against the Wildcats since March 10, 2022.

Not much got past Taylor Tittle, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep Central off the board.

At the plate, Deshler's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Willingham, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That's the most hits Willingham has posted over her last eight contests.

Deshler pushed their record up to 26-13 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Hatton, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-22-2.

Hatton beat Deshler 8-3 in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
