Softball Recap: Ceres' Winning Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Ceres dropped their record down to 15-8 on Thursday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Manteca Buffaloes by a score of 6-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 4-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2017.

Bella Bravo made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriela Ortiz, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for Manteca, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.

On Manteca's side, Isabel Tonna tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits.

On the hitting side, Sienna Owen and Ayva Wilkins did most of the damage at the plate: Owen went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Wilkins went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three RBI gave Owen a new career-high. Bella Cooper was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Ceres has already played their next contest, a 6-3 defeat against Enochs on the 25th. As for Manteca, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-6 win against Ben Holt College Prep Academy on the 25th.
