Baseball Recap: Santa Gertrudis Academy Comes Up Short

Santa Gertrudis Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Banquete Bulldogs. The Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

Adam Hinojosa put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Hinojosa was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Hinojosa wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Moya, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Zack Castillo also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Santa Gertrudis Academy's record now sits at 7-16. As for Banquete, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-7-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santa Gertrudis Academy will venture away from home to face off against Premont at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Banquete, they will head out to square off against San Diego at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vaqueros' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
