Softball Recap: Suffield Wildcats vs. Bolton Bulldogs
Suffield had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-3 to make it ten. They came up short against the Bolton Bulldogs, falling 13-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 20-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.
As for Bolton, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-7. Considering they have won five matchups by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
For Bolton's part, Abbie Gravel was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Gravel was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sarah Mattei, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Natalie Connelly, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As of now, neither Suffield nor Bolton have any future games scheduled.
