Softball Recap: Marquette Wins Going Away Against East Dubuque

After only two runs in their last matchup, Marquette made sure to put some runs up on the board against East Dubuque on Saturday. Marquette was the clear victor by a 16-6 margin over East Dubuque. The Crusaders' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Kinley Rick made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Hunter Hopkins was incredible, going 4-for-6 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Makayla Backos, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Marquette kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They got five more hits than East Dubuque's also-impressive total of 11.

Marquette's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for East Dubuque, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Marquette didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-2 victory against North Mac on the 22nd. As for East Dubuque, they will hit the road for the first time this season to take on Southwestern at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
