Basketball Game Preview: West Field Longhorns vs. Tooele Buffaloes

The West Field Longhorns will venture away from home to square off against the Tooele Buffaloes at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Field is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

Last Thursday, West Field ended up a good deal behind Green Canyon and lost 68-51.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Canyon Britt, who posted 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Doxey, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Tooele earned a 61-51 win over Hillcrest on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Buffaloes in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won six in a row.

Tooele's win came from a few key players West Field will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Macie Gustin, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds she has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Searle, who went 8 of 12 en route to 20 points and five boards.

Tooele smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive games.

West Field's defeat dropped their record down to 6-17. As for Tooele, their record is now 16-7.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: West Field has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 24.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Tooele struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.6 boards.
