Softball Game Preview: Miller Buccaneers vs. Carroll Tigers

Miller hasn't had much luck against Carroll recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Miller Buccaneers will host the Carroll Tigers at 10:00 a.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Miller is headed into Saturday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Corpus Christi Moody.

Isabella Campos made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. Mariah Benavides was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last four games, Carroll finally came back down to earth on Thursday. They came up short against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, falling 9-0. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Tigers were not able to get on the board.

Carroll saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Benasia Ellison, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Jaslyn Yzaguirre also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Carroll's loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Miller, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.

Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Miller hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Carroll struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Miller suffered a grim 26-3 defeat to Carroll when the teams last played back in March of 2020. Can Miller avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
