Basketball Recap: Hayden Skates Past Dugway with Ease

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Hayden's strategy against Dugway on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Tigers blew the Mustangs out of the water with a 62-31 final score. The Tigers pushed the score to 48-26 by the end of the third, a deficit the Mustangs had little chance of recovering from.

Hayden had a senior duo take command as Jace Bene went 9-for-14 en route to 18 points along with five rebounds and five steals and Justin Preston posted 18 points and four steals. The contest was Bene's fourth in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Morrison, who put up six points and three steals.

Despite the defeat, Dugway saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gary Williams Jr scored 18 points. That was a full 58.1% of the Mustangs' points, marking the sixth time in a row Williams Jr has had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kadyn Salas, who earned six points.

Hayden's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Dugway, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Coming up, Hayden will be playing in front of their home fans against Dolores at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Dugway, they will face off against Water Canyon at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
