The Kennedy Commanders will challenge the Standley Lake Gators at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Kennedy has given up an average of 11.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Kennedy came up short against Lincoln on Saturday, falling 16-1. The Commanders haven't had much luck with the Lancers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Kennedy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Nielsen, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Standley Lake ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Pomona 10-9. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Gators as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Titus Schrecengost made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dylan Lindenmayer, who went 3-for-4 with two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Marc Garcia was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with two runs.
Standley Lake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Standley Lake's victory bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Kennedy, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-12.
Kennedy's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Commanders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Standley Lake, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Kennedy continue to outrun the ball?
