Basketball Recap: Carnegie Takes a Loss

Carnegie lost against Hinton back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Carnegie Wildcats were outmatched by the Hinton Comets and fell 62-31. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Loss or not, Carnegie got some senior leadership from Karlee Tohkofper and Taya Cole. Tohkofper almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds, while Cole posted five points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Cole a new career-high in points. Harley Gastineau also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Carnegie smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Carnegie's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Hinton, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8.

Carnegie will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Santa Fe South Pathways Middle College at 1:00 p.m. on January 28th. Hinton has already played their next contest (against Mountain View-Gotebo), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
