Football Game Preview: East Ascension Spartans vs. Dutchtown Griffins

The East Ascension Spartans are taking a road trip to challenge the Dutchtown Griffins at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. East Ascension has given up an average of 35.5 points per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

East Ascension came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They were beaten by Teurlings Catholic 64-29. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Spartans have suffered since November 7, 2024.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Dutchtown, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They snuck past Walker with a 19-14 victory on Friday. Those 19 points were actually the fewest the Griffins have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Dutchtown pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.8 points over those games. As for East Ascension, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

East Ascension ended up a good deal behind Dutchtown when the teams last played back in November of 2024, losing 30-14. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
