The Lucas Cubs will head out to face off against the Crestview Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lucas is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Lucas came out on top against Crestline on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Cubs put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 12-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cubs in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won eight in a row.
The team relied heavily on Bobby Grover, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Anthony Fanello was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Crestview came out on top against Mapleton on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run third inning. The Cougars walked away with an 11-6 win over the Mounties. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 18, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Gavin Barker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Crestview got a massive performance out of Kayn Patton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Tyson Ringler, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Crestview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive matchups.
Lucas' record is now 8-5. As for Crestview, their record now sits at 6-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lucas has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Crestview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lucas suffered a grim 15-2 defeat to Crestview in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Cubs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
