Baseball Recap: West Cabarrus Find Success

West Cabarrus proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 21) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the South Iredell Vikings 11-10. With that victory, the Wolverines brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Antonio Estevez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of West Cabarrus' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Cage Love, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

West Cabarrus' win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 5-8. As for South Iredell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4.

Looking ahead, West Cabarrus will host Concord at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Iredell, they will head out on the road to square off against Lake Norman at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Norman's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so South Iredell's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
