Baseball Recap: Pen Argyl Triumphs

Pen Argyl hadn't done well against Saucon Valley recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Green Knights never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Cayden Vishnesky made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 16 over six innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Pen Argyl is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-9 otherwise. Vishnesky was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Nicholas Haros was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. He has become a key player for Pen Argyl: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least one home run, but 4-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Herfurth, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Pen Argyl's victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Saucon Valley, the defeat snapped their winning streak at nine games and leaves them with a 11-3 record.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Pen Argyl is set to challenge their familiar foe Wilson Area at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Saucon Valley will square off against rival Salisbury Township at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers are on a four-game streak of home wins, the Falcons a four-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
