Baseball Recap: Delta Starts Season with Win Against Buckingham Charter

Delta gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Buckingham Charter Knights. That's more bragging rights for the Saints, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Chase Parkinson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit, allowed only an earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grayson Friend, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases. Austin Ortega was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Buckingham Charter dropped their record down to 0-3 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Delta wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 12-11 victory against Foresthill on the 28th. As for Buckingham Charter, they will host Elite at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
