Recap: Fernley Vaqueros vs. Damonte Ranch Mustangs
The Fernley Vaqueros put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Damonte Ranch by a score of 49-41. Given Fernley's advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while Damonte Ranch is ranked 53rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fernley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaelece Wasson, who scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wasson has scored at least 25% of Fernley's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiserita Otuafi, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Damonte Ranch still got an impressive performance from Ivy Rodriguez, who scored 17 points.
Fernley's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Damonte Ranch, the last time they won on the road was back last Thursday. Having now lost three straight away contests, they've bumped their record down to 2-4.
Fernley will square off against Wooster at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Damonte Ranch is on the road again on Friday and play against Grant at 3:15 p.m. on December 8th. Grant will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
