Baseball Game Preview: Delavan Panthers vs. Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn Rockets

The Delavan Panthers will head out to face off against the Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Delavan's victory against Cornerstone Christian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Panthers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Cyclones 6-5. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Cyclones recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Corie Green made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Trace Kight-Garlisch was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Cameron McMullen was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn waltzed into their contest on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Mustangs as they made off with a 14-4 win. Considering the Rockets have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-9. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Delavan, their record is now 13-11.

Delavan couldn't quite finish off Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
