Recap: Straughn Tigers vs. Southside Panthers

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Straughn Tigers had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed by Southside at home to the tune of 45-14. Considering Straughn has won eight contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Layne Grantham went supernova for Straughn, rushing for 270 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per carry, and also throwing for 12 yards and a touchdown. Grant Barnes was another key contributor, rushing for 74 yards and a touchdown.

When it comes to explaining why Southside lost, one person who can't be blamed is MJ Reese. Despite the final result, he rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and also threw for 107 yards and a touchdown.

The win (which was Straughn's sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.2 points per game. As for Southside, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.

Straughn's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Thomasville at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Thomasville is ranked 81st, while Straughn is ranked 103rd). Southside does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
