The Coronado Islanders will hit the road for the first time this season to take on the Madison Warhawks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Coronado put up the most points they have all season on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Bayfront Charter a 14-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Islanders in their matchups with the Sharks: they've now won three in a row.
Tatum Munoz and Ali Pecus made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Munoz tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Pecus pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Munoz gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024. At bat, Munoz scored a run while going 2-for-2, while Pecus went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Pecus has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Maren Hawley was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Vida Sanchez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Coronado kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 11.4.
Meanwhile, Madison had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on Liberty Charter with a sharp 13-3 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Warhawks' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Coronado's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Madison, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-5.
