Softball Game Preview: Northview Wildcats vs. Perrysburg Yellow Jackets

Northview is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will head out on the road to face off against the Perrysburg Yellow Jackets at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Perrysburg will be up against a hot Northview team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Wildcats came out on top against Ayersville by a score of 10-5 on Friday.

Meanwhile, Perrysburg had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They blew past the Panthers 14-3. The result was nothing new for the Yellow Jackets, who have now won five matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

Maddie Von Sacken spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Perrysburg let Kylynn Thomas and Hayley Griggs run wild. Thomas scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Griggs scored two runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Thomas also put up two doubles, which were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Morgan Hoverman, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Perrysburg hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whitmer struck out seven times.

Perrysburg's win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games. As for Northview, their record now sits at 4-1.

Northview suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Perrysburg in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
