Basketball Game Preview: Waverly Vikings vs. Duchesne Cardinals

Waverly is a perfect 4-0 against Duchesne since December of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Waverly Vikings will head out to face off against the Duchesne Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. Waverly is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season.

Waverly was handed a heart-breaking two-point defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Aurora on Friday. Waverly really took it to Aurora for the full four quarters, racking up a 50-23 victory. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Huskies are ranked 123rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Waverly can attribute much of their success to Parker Christiansen, who posted 11 points, and Tatum Mcintire, who put up nine points.

Meanwhile, Duchesne's game on Thursday was all tied up 17-17 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 36-28 win over South Sioux City. Duchesne hasn't had any issues with South Sioux City recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Waverly has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.6 points over those games. As for Duchesne, their record now sits at 6-11.

Waverly strolled past Duchesne in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a score of 45-31. The rematch might be a little tougher for Waverly since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
