Baseball Recap: Mingo Central Wins Going Away Against Bluefield

Mingo Central had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on the Bluefield Beavers with a sharp 18-1 win on Wednesday.

Tyler Coleman made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Mingo Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-12 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keziah Joplin, who went 4-for-5 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Mingo Central: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Newsome, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Mingo Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Mingo Central's victory bumped their record up to 6-13. As for Bluefield, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-18.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mingo Central will square off against Tolsia at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Miners are facing the Rebels at the right time seeing as the Rebels are stuck on an 18-game losing streak. As for Bluefield, they will take on Independence at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Beavers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
