Baseball Recap: Catholic Takes Down Ranked University Lab

Catholic faced University Lab in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Bears walked away with a 12-8 victory over the Cubs. The Bears haven't had any issues with the Cubs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Hayes Segar looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Catholic got a massive performance out of Noah Lewis, who scored two runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-5. Those five stolen bases gave Lewis a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Clapinski, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double.

Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as University Lab only posted an OBP of .353.

Catholic's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for University Lab, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Catholic will welcome St. Michael at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for University Lab, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ascension Catholic at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
