Baseball Preview: Crete Cardinals vs. Aurora Huskies
The Crete Cardinals will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Aurora Huskies at 6:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Crete finally turned things around against Nebraska City on Wednesday. Crete won by a run and slipped past Nebraska City 6-5.
Nick Wendt was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Placzek, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Aurora can finally bid farewell to their nine-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They skirted past St. Paul/Palmer 6-5.
Keegan Chaney was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with a home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jace Dorsey, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with a stolen base.
Crete's victory ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-14. As for Aurora, their win bumped their record up to 2-14.
