Lewis County is 8-2 against East Fairmont since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Minutemen will face off against the Bees at 5:00 p.m. Lewis County is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games.
On Monday, Lewis County made easy work of Liberty and carried off a 13-5 victory. Considering the Minutemen have won eight contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Ashley Crook was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Payten Goodwin, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Addie Curry also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Lewis County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous four matchup, East Fairmont brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. Everything went their way against Liberty on Saturday as they made off with a 22-10 win. With that victory, the Bees brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
East Fairmont got a massive performance out of Gracie Snyder, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Haddix, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Lewis County's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for East Fairmont, the win snapped their losing streak at six games and leaves them with a 4-13 record.
East Fairmont's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Lewis County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for East Fairmont, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Lewis County keep running through batters, or will the Bees buck the trend?
Everything went Lewis County's way against East Fairmont in their previous meeting last Friday, as Lewis County made off with a 12-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Minutemen since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
