Basketball Recap: Southwood Takes a Loss

Southwood played a tough contest on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt an 83-47 defeat at the hands of the Manchester Squires. The loss continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Squires: they've now lost seven in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Southwood lost, don't look at Bryce Wilcox. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Griffin Chambers, who posted six points.

Gavin Betten was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds for Manchester. The match was Betten's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ethan Hendrix, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 17 points and six assists.

Southwood's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Manchester, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southwood will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Mississinewa at 7:30 p.m. on January 8, 2025. As for Manchester, they will head out to square off against Northwestern at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Manchester is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.8 points per game this season.
