Basketball Recap: Hun Raiders vs. Mercersburg Academy Blue Storm
The Hun Raiders are ranked highly in their home state, and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of the Mercersburg Academy Blue Storm. Hun fell just short of the Blue Storm by a score of 58-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the defeat, Hun saw an underclassman step up: Gabby D'Agostino scored 28 points. That was a full 50% of Hun's points, marking the 12th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was CeeJay Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Hun smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mercersburg Academy only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Mercersburg Academy found their leader in underclassman Annie Mohr, who scored 22 points along with five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mohr has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nia Henley, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Hun's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-12. As for Mercersburg Academy, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-6.
Hun does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mercersburg Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Lions at 12:00 p.m. on February 3rd. GVCS Broadfording is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
