Basketball Recap: Durham Academy Cavaliers vs. St. Mary's Saints

The Durham Academy Cavaliers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They walked away with a 60-49 win over St. Mary. The win was nothing new for Durham Academy as they're now sitting on three straight.

Durham Academy was led to victory by Rashyia "Shy" Williams and Sarra Abdelbarr. Williams dropped a double-double on 14 points and 18 rebounds, while Abdelbarr scored 27 points along with six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Abdelbarr has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Fleming Burkert, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.

Despite the loss, St. Mary's still got an impressive performance from Emme Seymour, who scored 20 points. It was the first time this season that Seymour scored 15 or more points. Helen Newcomb was another key contributor, scoring nine points.

Durham Academy's win bumped their record up to 10-14. As for St. Mary's, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Durham Academy will square off against the Knights at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. North Raleigh Christian Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Cavaliers in North Carolina (the Knights are ranked 143rd, while the Cavaliers are ranked 306th). As for St. Mary's, they will head out on the road to square off against the Chargers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
