Basketball Game Preview: River Ridge Wildcats vs. Newman Central Catholic Comets

The River Ridge Wildcats and the Newman Central Catholic Comets will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. River Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.1 points per game this season.

On Friday, River Ridge came up short against Warren and fell 62-51.

Defeat or not, River Ridge got some senior leadership from Joe Winter and Mason Smith. Winter went 9 of 16 on his way to 18 points and seven boards, while Smith went 5 for 10 en route to 12 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. The match was Winter's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Damon Dittmar, who posted 12 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Newman Central Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past Hall 71-49 on Friday.

Newman Central Catholic's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-10. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.7 points per game. As for River Ridge, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.

River Ridge came up short against Newman Central Catholic in their previous meeting back in February of 2018, falling 69-60. Can River Ridge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
