Softball Game Preview: Sandy Pioneers vs. West Albany Bulldogs

The Sandy Pioneers will challenge the West Albany Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Sandy's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while West Albany has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Sandy took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Tualatin, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Pioneers skirted past the Timberwolves 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pioneers have posted since April 30, 2024.

Meanwhile, West Albany fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Bend on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lava Bears by a score of 11-10. On the bright side, the ten- run effort marked the Bulldogs' highest-scoring contest to date.

Gabriella Young 2027 spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and seven unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Mikayla Chaffins 2026 was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs while going 3-for-5. She also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season.

West Albany's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Sandy, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
