Football Recap: Madison County Starts Season with Loss at Home

Madison County unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 21-20 to the DeLand Bulldogs. The Cowboys gained 140 more yards on the day, but it was the Bulldogs that made the best use of them.

Several Cowboys players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Travis Arnold Jr, who rushed for 45 yards and one TD, and also picked up 81 receiving yards. Chad Mitchell was another key passer, throwing for 191 yards and one touchdown on only 16 passes.

Taihj Moore went supernova For DeLand., rushing for 78 yards and one score on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 35 yards and one TD.

Madison County will face off against Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for DeLand, they will take on New Smyrna Beach at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
