Basketball Recap: Dixie Flyers vs. Hurricane Tigers

If the Dixie Flyers were feeling good off their 66-33 takedown of the Crimson Cliffs Mustangs last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Dixie fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 37-34. Dixie was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

Defeat or not, Dixie got some senior leadership from Kealah Faumuina and Hali Smith. Faumuina scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Smith. scored seven points along with eight steals and six rebounds. Smith is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Hurricane had a senior duo take command as Nizhoni Dominguez almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds and Addison Crandall scored nine points along with four blocks and two steals.

Dixie has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season. As for Hurricane, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dixie will challenge the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Pine View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Thursday. Hurricane's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Thunder at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Utah (Desert Hills is ranked 55th, while the Tigers are ranked 44th).
