Football Recap: Geneva's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Geneva blew Batavia out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Batavia got their revenge. The Vikings fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 24-21. The contest was a 7-7 toss-up at halftime, but the Vikings couldn't quite close it out.

Geneva lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ben Peterson, who threw for 346 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 15.0 yards per attempt, and also punched in one rushing score. His passing game has become a key predictor of Geneva's success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. The Vikings' leading receiver Bennett Konkey was Peterson's top target yet again, picking up 159 receiving yards and one score.

Batavia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Michael Vander Luitgaren led the charge by throwing for 233 yards and a pair of TDs, while also punching in one touchdown on the ground. The Bulldogs' leading receiver Darin Ashiru was Vander Luitgaren's top target yet again, picking up 110 receiving yards and one score.

Geneva's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-3. As for Batavia, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
