Baseball Recap: Vernon Hills Victorious

Vernon Hills was forced to take a big defeat against they on Monday, they got the better of them on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Niles West Wolves. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Wolves on Monday, they had to take a 10-2 loss.

Ethan Zbylut spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Vernon Hills is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Connor Brockway, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Vernon Hills is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Niles West, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-13.

Vernon Hills will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wolves: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
