Softball Recap: Riverton Takes Down Ranked Bear River

Riverton faced Bear River in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Silverwolves were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Bears. Considering the Silverwolves have won 13 matchups by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Peyton Sanchez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Grace Leary was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Londyn Rentmeister was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Riverton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bear River only posted an OBP of .176.

Riverton's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Bear River, they moved to 18-5 with that loss, which also ended their 11-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Riverton will be playing in front of their home fans against Grantsville at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Silverwolves 2.8, the Cowboys 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Bear River, they will challenge Layton at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Lancers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.33 runs per game on average), something the Bears will no doubt try to take advantage of.
