Baseball Recap: A.J. Ellender Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Jena, A.J. Ellender was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the L.W. Higgins Hurricanes, sneaking past 5-4. For the Patriots, this counts as revenge for the 6-2 victory the Hurricanes walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Dakota Porche was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of A.J. Ellender's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't).

The win got A.J. Ellender back to even at 7-7. As for L.W. Higgins, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season.

A.J. Ellender will head out to challenge South Plaquemines at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for L.W. Higgins, they will face off against Booker T. Washington at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.2 runs per game on average), something the Hurricanes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
