Softball Game Preview: West Valley Eagles vs. Rogers Pirates

West Valley is on a four-game streak of home losses, and Rogers an 11-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The West Valley Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rogers Pirates at 2:00 p.m. West Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.

West Valley will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against North Central on Tuesday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Wolfpack with a sharp 35-9 win. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Piper Hancock was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (four). Ally VanWeerdhuisen was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs and four RBI.

West Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .839. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Rogers came up short against East Valley on Tuesday, falling 13-3.

Rogers' loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for West Valley, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

West Valley took their win against Rogers when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 17-6 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
