Basketball Preview: Steeleville Warriors vs. Dupo Tigers
The Steeleville Warriors are taking a road trip to take on the Dupo Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.
Steeleville took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They managed a 55-50 victory over New Athens. The win was some much needed relief for the Warriors as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dupo). They enjoyed a cozy 56-39 victory over McKinley Classical Leadership Academy on Wednesday.
Dupo found their leader in sophomore Keara Prater, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds. Prater has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times she's played. Kaitlyn Roberts was another key player, going 5 for 9 on her way to 10 points.
Dupo's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-11. As for Steeleville, their victory bumped their record up to 7-15.
Everything came up roses for Steeleville against Dupo in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 51-24 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Steeleville since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
