Basketball Recap: South Putnam Comes Up Short

South Putnam lost against Speedway back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The South Putnam Eagles were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 53-52 to the Speedway Sparkplugs. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Speedway's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Madelynn Matelic, who went 8 of 15 en route to 20 points and seven boards. The matchup was Matelic's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Mylie Walton, who posted eight points along with seven assists and five steals.

South Putnam's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Speedway, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-11.

South Putnam won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Sullivan at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Speedway, they will face off against Indianapolis Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
