Basketball Recap: Laurel Comes Up Short

Laurel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Bowie Bulldogs 77-22. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-13.

Bowie got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sanaa Blunt out in front who went 5-for-6 to rack up 13 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. Bowie is 5-1 when Blunt posts three or more steals, but 6-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Autumn Welch, who went 9-for-16 on her way to 22 points and three steals.

Laurel's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Bowie, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season.

Laurel wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 58-25 defeat against Wise on the 18th. As for Bowie, they will venture away from home to take on High Point at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
