Softball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Lake Wales' Sixth in Last Eight Outings

With a playoff win on the line, Lake Wales rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Rockledge Raiders with a sharp 8-2 victory.

Anna Conroy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Lake Wales let Mattie Cockrell and Keira Davis run wild. Cockrell got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI, while Davis went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Lake Wales has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Rockledge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-10.

Looking ahead, Lake Wales will square off against Lake Region at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Thunder will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Highlanders surely won't give up without a fight. Rockledge does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
