Football Recap: Righetti Takes a Loss

Righetti extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 1-4. They were beaten by the Arroyo Grande Eagles 64-35. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 566th, while the Eagles are ranked 190th).

When it comes to explaining why Righetti lost, don't look at Nicholas Matautia. Despite the final result, he rushed for 88 yards and three scores on only nine carries, and also threw for 198 yards and one touchdown. Matautia's longest rush was for an impressive 54 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Justin Oliveras also deserves some recognition as he punched in his first rushing touchdown of the season.

As for Arroyo Grande, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-3. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Zack Tayman produced another solid effort rushing for 231 yards and five TDs while picking up 12.2 yards per carry. Those five rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Levi Childers, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Righetti will face off against Garces Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors' defense better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 31.8 points per game this season. As for Arroyo Grande, they will challenge Nipomo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Tayman and Nick Evans.
